Challenge

N1 lacked a unified data foundation to prioritize investments and maintenance. Data about assets, breakdowns, and operations were scattered across different systems that could not be used directly for a data-driven reinvestment plan. They therefore wanted an objective assessment of all assets based on risk and consequences of overload.

Solution

Based on system data, failure statistics, engineering knowledge, and mathematical models, a model was developed that provided an objective assessment of the risk of breakdown for all assets in the power grid, as well as a calculation of the consequences for private individuals, businesses, and public institutions. The results were displayed in dashboards that provided quick and intuitive overview.

Result

N1 now has a strong tool that provides a data-driven and objective basis for prioritizing investments and maintenance. This allows resources to be optimized without compromising supply security.
